I build software for businesses and run the servers and networks it depends on.

ICT engineer in Lusaka, Zambia. Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science, CCNA-trained on physical Cisco equipment, and a licensed practitioner with ICTAZ.

Where my work sits, from people to the network

Each line is a project. A dot marks a layer it works in. Select a project to read about it.

Four client systems and four labs, covering everything from training users to routing traffic.

Client work

Systems I've built as a freelance developer for businesses in Lusaka, using Next.js, FastAPI and PostgreSQL. Clients are described here rather than named.

Smart power distribution platform

Client
Energy-management business
When
June 2026 to now
Status
In client testing

The problem

When several tenants share one meter, everyone pays the same amount, even when some use far more power than others.

What I built

A multi-tenant platform that distributes power from a primary meter to secondary smart meters and reads them through their APIs, so each tenant pays for what they actually use. Super admins, admins and tenants each get their own access level.

Income and employee management system

Client
Salon and barbershop business with several shops
When
July 2024 to March 2025
Status
In production

The problem

The owner drove between shops every day to count cash note by note and match mobile money and card payments against each employee's sales.

What I built

One system where every shop records its takings by payment type, service and employee. The owner sees all shops from one place, and staff are rewarded based on the income they actually bring in.

I gathered the requirements from the owner and staff, trained employees at each shop, and supported them after launch, including fixing data-entry and record errors.

Barcode inventory system

Client
The same salon and barbershop business
When
February to March 2025
Status
In production

The problem

Every shop received the same stock, so some ran out of products while others sat on supplies they didn't use.

What I built

Together with another developer, a barcode-scanning inventory system with separate views for the owner and each shop's checkout. The owner can now see how each shop actually uses products and restock to match.

SME evaluation platform

Client
Business-evaluation programme
When
June to August 2025
Status
In production

The problem

Evaluators scored small businesses individually on paper, then had to meet and explain whenever their scores differed widely.

What I built

A shared web app where each evaluator scores on their own device and every score is visible and easy to update, which made the process transparent. It went from requirements to production in just over a month.

Labs and infrastructure

Environments I build and run myself to practise the day-to-day work of systems and network administration. Code for my own projects is on GitLab.

Active Directory, help desk and VoIP lab

Built with
Windows Server 2022, Windows 10, FreePBX, VMware
When
August 2026 to now

A Windows Server 2022 domain controller running Active Directory, DNS and DHCP, with a help desk machine and a user machine joined to the domain. I set up departmental OUs and security groups, password and lockout policies, mapped drives by department, and a network printer pushed through Group Policy only to the users who need it.

Help desk work runs through Spiceworks tickets, PDQ Deploy and PDQ Inventory for software rollout and asset tracking, and remote support over RDP and Windows Remote Assistance. A FreePBX phone system adds internal extensions for the help desk, HR and system admin, with test calls between softphones.

What broke and how I fixed itA failed softphone login made Fail2ban ban my machine's address, and Asterisk went down with it, taking the admin page offline. I lifted the ban, added the lab subnet to Fail2ban's ignore list and restarted Asterisk with fwconsole restart.

Infrastructure monitoring dashboard

Built with
Python, FastAPI, Netdata, SNMP, Keycloak
When
August 2026 to now

A real-time dashboard showing server health, router traffic, DNS, VPN and Docker service status in one place, with alerts for critical failures. Sign-in goes through Keycloak single sign-on, including proper sign-out across services.

What broke and how I fixed itNetdata's SNMP profiles couldn't expose my router's traffic counters, so the dashboard polls the router directly over SNMP with pysnmp instead.

Self-hosted servers

Built with
Ubuntu, Docker, Caddy, WireGuard, Unbound, AdGuard Home
When
March 2025 to now

A home server and a public cloud VPS running my own DNS resolver and filtering, a WireGuard VPN for remote access, a Caddy reverse proxy with TLS, Keycloak for identity and Netdata for monitoring, all in Docker containers. The VPS hosts live web services, including this site.

Working around a limitationMy internet provider doesn't give a static IP address, so remote access to the home server runs through dynamic DNS configured on the router.

Enterprise network design

Built with
GNS3, Cisco IOS
When
March 2026

A small multi-site enterprise network with Cisco routers and switches, OSPF routing between sites and VLANs separating departments, documented with a topology diagram and a full IP addressing plan. It builds on the CCNA labs I completed on physical Cisco routers and switches at the University of Zambia.

  • VLANs and OSPF
  • DNS, DHCP and NAT
  • SNMP monitoring
  • WireGuard VPN
  • VoIP, SIP and QoS basics
  • Cisco IOS on physical routers and switches
